Race Report / Washougal SMX, Washougal, Washington.
This could be one of the only races in the world where you might see bigfoot on the way to the track, deep into the Washington wilderness sits Washougal Raceway. Built into a hillside, shaded by some tall, tall trees, Washougal is an iconic venue.
The quick run down for the Washougal National.
Who: Some of the top riders in the world, while there are a lot of strong riders in Europe racing MXGP, there are just as many top calibre riders in the U.S. right now, from all over the world.
What: The Washougal race is part of the outdoor portion of the Supermotocross series (SMX), it is a two moto format race, the usual for U.S. national races.
Where: About a six hour drive from Vancouver, or save some time and fly into Seattle and save four or so hours. The track is just outside of the town of Washougal. There is one road in and it gets very busy so, line up as early as possible, at least you can enjoy the scenic river views.
When: Late July usually, dates vary each year so check for those in late spring.
Why: If you’re on the west coast, why not? If you haven’t seen pro motocross in person it is worth the trip.
